Neural network model of the simpathetic regulation. For each tissue (k), the sympathetic efferent discharge (E k ), the blood flow (F k ), the venous partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide (pO 2 v k ) and (pCO 2 v k ), and the arterial partial pressure after the lung gases diffuse (pO 2 a) and (pCO 2 a) are shown. Finally chemoreceptors discharge (C) is depicted. R k represents the rostral neural nuclei inputs from the NTS, and Wr k and Wc k represent the synaptic weights.
