Plaque geometry and dimensions. d w is the arterial wall thickness, d p is the plaque thickness, d mp is the macrophage rich layer thickness, l f is the thickness of the fibrous cap. l p and l mp represent the extension or length of the plaque and the macrophage layer in the longitudinal direction, respectively. The location x i = x/l p of 4 observation points is presented. Point A corresponds to the center of the plaque (x A = 0.5), point B presents a point at x B = 0.65; point C is defined at x C = 0.7; and point D is the ending point of the plaque (x D = 1).
