Regional deoxy-Hb (thick solid lines) decline is associated with increase in regional blood flow (thin solid line) and oxygen consumption (broken lines). In fMRI, T2* is described as blood flow based functional imaging of brain activation as sum of all activation pixels (yellow color) from all serial images shown in the figure 1 (on right).
