One-way check valves, direction of flow indicated by arrows, dictate the unidirectional flow for the pistons, represented by diagonal line shading. Pistons are bi-directional and, for the two-piston configuration, positioned 90° out of phase to generate 4 piston cycles per revolution of the crankshaft connected to the pistons.
