The left axis (a) indicates the proposed single-cycle square wave protocol following warm-up at 5 km/h for 4 minutes, onset running at 9 km/h for 6 minutes and offset walking at 5 km/h for at least 5 minutes. The right axis (b) indicates the proposed interval training protocol following warm-up at 5 km/h for 4 minutes, 3 iterations of onset at 9 km/h for 57 seconds and offset at 5 km/h for 60 seconds, and cool-down at 5 km/h for at least 5 minutes.
