Friction factor versus Reynolds number for the SMP foam samples and MECs. The mechanical reticulation hole density (ζ) has units E + 5 holes/m2. The friction factors and Reynolds numbers for both SMP foam types and for the MECs collapse onto the relationship specified by Equation 3 for Reynolds numbers ranging approximately from 1 to 35. The friction factors of all SMP foam samples were higher than those of the MECs.
