Table 5 List of Recurrence plot features

From: Review and classification of variability analysis techniques with clinical applications

Short name

Description

%Recurrence

Represents the number of recurrences among the total number of possible recurrences.

%Determinism

Represents the number of recurrence points that are part of a diagonal of at least l min elements (usually l min = 2), divided by the number of recurrences.

%Laminarity

Corresponds to the computation of %Determinism, but considering vertical (or horizontal) lines instead of diagonal lines.

Trapping Time

Represents the number of recurrence points that are part of vertical (or horizontal) lines, divided by the number of vertical (or horizontal) lines.

%Determinism/%Recurrence

This ratio is often used to detect transitions of the dynamics.

Segment lengths

The mean and maximum lengths of diagonal and vertical (or horizontal) lines.

Shannon entropy

Same feature presented in the informational domain, but applied to the distributions of the lines (either diagonal or vertical/horizontal).

Kolmogorov entropy

The slope of the line fitting the log-log plot of the distribution of diagonal lines as a function of the threshold used to create the recurrence plot.
